What ingredients make a successful newsletter?

Having spent lots of time writing newsletters for Tailored Time and our other clients, we know that it is important to start out with a goal in mind. This could be building your brand, building your marketing list or selling products directly from the newsletter. Whatever you choose it is important to keep this in mind when you put pen to paper.

These are some of our must haves for a successful newsletter:

  1. Scanable copy - we don't have time to read everything that comes into our inbox but often do have time to scan it. If it is interesting, readers often save it for later
  2. Call to action - if you do want to sell directly from your newsletter, make sure you include your call to action and contact details
  3. Images - having an attractively designed newsletter makes it all the more readable
  4. Subject line & sub titles - think about your audience as some will like to see consistency however for other industries/businesses it may pay to change them each time and make them eye catching
  5. Content - as always, think what your audience want to read. Don't just write your newsletter for the sake of it, give your audience value
  6. Voice - give your newsletter a voice, make it personal
