We are always on the hunt for ways to make the entrepreneur's life easier. Our mind has been on how to make accounting easier for the SME as not everyone was born a natural with figures. And we think we may have found it.
When we talk to some accountants and book keepers, they rave about SAGE. It certainly has it plus points but speaking from experience, it really is designed with an accountant in mind... regardless of what the marketing blurb says.
The biggest challenge for an SME who is keeping things virtual is how to get a business snap shot without having to ask for it. We were introduced to www.freeagentcentral.com and think that it solves lots of these challenges. It doesn't do the inputting for you (that is where we come in!) but it is just wonderful to be able to see you figures in real time, be able to generate invoices on the fly, send out reminders... oh the list is endless.
The frustrating things are having to reinput all the historical data but you can easily negate this by opting just to use the new system going forward. Simple.
We would love to hear your thoughts and whether you have found other great online account systems too.

What ingredients make a successful e shot?
Our clients often ask this question so I thought it might be a good opportunity to open it to see what you think.
- Make it relevant - know your market and know what turns them on
- Beware of putting ?!£$ in your subject line as this sometimes means that they will get caught in the spam box
- Images - if you want to use them make sure they are relevant
- Bold - beware those of you who like to go crazy with the bold as this can also get picked up by spam filters
- Ensure that you include a call to action
- Keep it Simple - sometimes we can get carried away with all thing things we want to tell our audience, it is best to keep it simple, coherent and straight forward
- Use a reliable service - there are many around but it is worth doing some research before striking out especially if you are building opt in lists.

What ingredients make a successful newsletter?
Having spent lots of time writing newsletters for Tailored Time and our other clients, we know that it is important to start out with a goal in mind. This could be building your brand, building your marketing list or selling products directly from the newsletter. Whatever you choose it is important to keep this in mind when you put pen to paper.
These are some of our must haves for a successful newsletter:

These are some of our must haves for a successful newsletter:
- Scanable copy - we don't have time to read everything that comes into our inbox but often do have time to scan it. If it is interesting, readers often save it for later
- Call to action - if you do want to sell directly from your newsletter, make sure you include your call to action and contact details
- Images - having an attractively designed newsletter makes it all the more readable
- Subject line & sub titles - think about your audience as some will like to see consistency however for other industries/businesses it may pay to change them each time and make them eye catching
- Content - as always, think what your audience want to read. Don't just write your newsletter for the sake of it, give your audience value
- Voice - give your newsletter a voice, make it personal
